How to Get to Gualaca
Gualaca (Chiriquí) is reached through David (DAV) - either by a connecting domestic flight or by overland bus from Panama City - then onward by local bus or taxi along the Interamericana. Bus travel is inexpensive; taxis are faster and useful with luggage.
David (Enrique Malek International, DAV): David is the nearest major airport to Gualaca. From David terminal take a taxi or a public bus heading up the Interamericana toward Boquete and Gualaca; road travel time is roughly 1-2 hours depending on service and stops. Taxis are faster door-to-door; buses are the cheapest option.
Panama City (PTY): If flying into Tocumen (PTY), take a domestic flight to David or use an overland bus/coach; overland by bus from Panama City to David is common (6-8 hours) and from David continue by bus/taxi to Gualaca (1-2 hours more).
Train: Panama has no intercity passenger rail service connecting David/Gualaca.
Bus / Colectivo: Regular buses and shared minibuses operate from David’s bus terminals toward Gualaca and towns in western Chiriquí. Buses are inexpensive (a few USD) and take around 1-2 hours; schedules vary so check the David terminal or ask locally for departure times. Taxis provide faster but costlier transfers from David to Gualaca village.
How to Get Around Gualaca #
Gualaca is a small town in Chiriquí that’s easy to navigate on foot for daily errands. Regular buses and shared taxis connect Gualaca with David and other towns; fares are affordable and services run throughout the day. For greater flexibility when exploring the highlands or nearby farms, renting a car or arranging private transport is helpful. Roads can be narrow in places, so allow extra time for travel.
