Coastal Tell Atlas (Algiers, Oran, Béjaïa)

September’s first cool mornings make coastal touring pleasant again as temperatures drop into the mid-20s; the sea remains warm for lingering swims around Jijel and the western beaches. Tourism eases compared with August, so it’s a good month for boat trips and coastal hiking - still carry a light jacket for breezy evenings on the promenade.

Kabylie & Eastern Tell (Tizi Ouzou, Béjaïa, Constantine)

September cools rapidly into a more pleasant season: daytime highs usually fall into the mid-20s and the first light rains can appear later in the month. This is a recommended time for cultural and outdoor travel - the terraces and mountain villages return to life after peak-summer quiet and hiking conditions are excellent.

High Plateaus & Steppe (Sétif, Batna, M’Sila)

September’s cooling trend is welcome: daytime highs commonly fall back into the mid-20s and the evenings become crisp. This month is excellent for exploring open-air sites and for mountain excursions into the Aures, with the light turning golden over archaeological ruins - a light jacket will be useful after sunset.

Northern Sahara & Oases (Ghardaïa, Timimoun, El Oued, Touggourt)

September sees temperatures ease back to more tolerable highs in the high 20s to low 30s - the desert becomes friendlier for multi-day trips and dune camping again. Early autumn is a popular time for extended itineraries: expect clearer skies, improving nights and fewer heat-related service disruptions.

Hoggar & Tassili Highlands (Tamanrasset, Djanet, Tassili n’Ajjer)

September cools into a highly agreeable period for travel: daytime temperatures fall into the mid-20s and mornings are brisk, ideal for long treks around Assekrem and the Hoggar peaks. The reduced heat and clearer skies make this one of the best windows for extended trekking and visiting remote rock art sites.
