Algeria in February: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Coastal Tell Atlas (Algiers, Oran, Béjaïa)

Late-winter days bring more sun than December but rain remains frequent along the coast; February daytime temperatures creep into the mid-teens while nights stay cool. Algiers and Oran are pleasant for city walking between showers, but bring layers and an umbrella - coastal winds keep humidity up so waterproof shoes are useful on slippery cobbles.

Kabylie & Eastern Tell (Tizi Ouzou, Béjaïa, Constantine)

February still carries winter’s imprint with crisp mornings and a mix of sun and rain; snowfall on higher slopes is not unusual and fresh white caps can be seen over the ridgelines. Constantine’s dramatic bridges look atmospheric in low light; pack waterproof gear and expect fewer tourists if you’re aiming for easier museum and café time.

High Plateaus & Steppe (Sétif, Batna, M’Sila)

February keeps winter’s grip: cold, dry air during the day and frequent frosty nights, with settled spells punctuated by sharp snow events at higher elevations. Archaeological sites near Batna (Timgad) are quieter and photogenic in low light, but trail access and rural driving require care and appropriate clothing.

Northern Sahara & Oases (Ghardaïa, Timimoun, El Oued, Touggourt)

February is one of the most comfortable months in the northern Sahara: clear, warm days around 20-24°C and cool nights make desert camping and dune walks enjoyable. Markets in Ghardaïa are lively after winter harvests, and roads are generally reliable; sunscreen and layered clothing are recommended for day-to-night comfort.
