Streams swell with meltwater and waterfalls start to roar around Valbona; cold snaps still bite in the evenings. Spring trekking becomes possible toward the end of the month on lower trails, but expect muddy approaches and occasional closed mountain refuges.

Some days are warm enough for vigorous walks on coastal trails around Himarë or visits to the ancient site at Butrint without crowds. Korçë, Pogradec, Prespa
March signals the beginning of a slow thaw; lower elevations around Pogradec see early spring flowers while Korçë can still register frosty nights and occasional snow flurries. Lake Ohrid’s water remains cold but the surrounding orchards awake, with birdlife returning to reed beds. This is a quiet, atmospheric time to visit monasteries and lakeside promenades, though pack waterproof layers for changeable conditions.
