Albanian Alps & Northern Lakes (Theth, Valbona, Shkodër)

February still carries significant snow in the high passes, and avalanches are a real hazard on steep slopes above Theth and Valbona. Lowland Shkodër can feel raw and damp, with occasional clear, cold days that are excellent for photography of snow-capped peaks reflecting on the lake. If you want winter solitude for alpine trekking or photographing frozen waterfalls, this is quiet season; bring crampons, and check local guides for safe valley routes.

Adriatic Coast & Durrës Plain (Durrës, Lezhë, Shengjin)

February remains cool and damp with frequent cloudy skies; strong bora gusts occasionally buffet Durrës and the exposed headlands around Shengjin, making beaches blustery. Low-season hotel rates make this a good time to explore the Roman amphitheatre and the port without crowds, but expect intermittent rainfall and choppy seas. Coastal roads can be slick-bring a rain jacket and allow extra time for transfers.

Central Hill Country & Tirana Plain (Tirana, Krujë, Elbasan)

February often remains cold and damp with short sunlit intervals; winds off the plains can make urban streets feel raw. Snow can fall in Tirana and nearby Krujë during stronger cold snaps, dusting castle tops and turning hilltop views striking. If you plan to explore the Krujë bazaar or hike Dajti, bring boots and expect muddy trails after thawing rains.

Ionian Coast & Albanian Riviera (Vlorë, Himarë, Sarandë, Ksamil)

February keeps the coast cool and occasionally windy with wet spells; clear, crisp days occur between fronts and are ideal for walking the coastal promenades in Vlorë or visiting Llogara National Park at lower crowds. The acqua is too cold for most swims, but dramatic winter skies and rough seas yield good photography. Ferry and boat services are reduced compared with summer-check schedules for island runs.

Eastern Highlands & Lake Ohrid (Korçë, Pogradec, Prespa)

February keeps the eastern highlands in winter’s hold with frequent snow at higher elevations and chill in the mornings; local festivals and indoor cultural life in Korçë continue despite the cold. Skiing is possible on nearby slopes when snow conditions are good, but many rural guesthouses operate on reduced schedules. If you enjoy clear winter light and small-town atmosphere, dress warmly and plan transport carefully around weather.
