How to Get to Abovyan
Abovyan sits just northeast of Yerevan and is straightforward to reach from Zvartnots Airport or from Yerevan by local bus/taxi. Road transport (marshrutka or taxi) is the normal way to arrive and move around locally.
Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): Abovyan is very close to Yerevan and is most easily reached via Zvartnots airport. From EVN you can take a taxi directly to Abovyan (~20-30 minutes depending on traffic) or transfer into Yerevan and take local marshrutkas/buses to Abovyan (journey ~30-45 minutes including city traffic).
Shirak (Gyumri) Airport (LWN): Shirak is considerably further; arriving there would normally entail a long overland transfer to Abovyan via Yerevan and is not the typical route for most visitors.
Train: There is no major intercity passenger rail service directly serving Abovyan; most public transport is by road. For train travel you would use Yerevan’s rail connections and continue by road.
Bus / Marshrutka: Regular buses and marshrutkas run between Yerevan and Abovyan (and to neighbouring towns). The trip from central Yerevan to Abovyan is short (roughly 20-40 minutes depending on traffic) and fares are inexpensive; local taxis are also widely available for the short transfer.
How to Get Around Abovyan #
Abovyan is a small city within commuting distance of Yerevan and is walkable in its central areas. Regular minibuses and buses connect Abovyan with Yerevan and nearby towns; taxis are common for shorter trips and private transfers work well for reaching surrounding villages.
