How to Get to Zhouzhuang

Zhouzhuang is a classic Jiangnan water town best reached via Suzhou/Kunshan or by road from Shanghai. High‑speed trains get you quickly to the regional hubs; from there taxis or local buses finish the trip. Plan for a final leg by road - Zhouzhuang has no railway station.

By Air

Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) / Shanghai Pudong (PVG): Zhouzhuang is often visited from Shanghai. From Hongqiao or Pudong you can reach Suzhou or Kunshan by high-speed train or bus then continue by road. Expect total travel from central Shanghai to Zhouzhuang to be 1-2 hours depending on connection and traffic.

Wuxi Sunan Shuofang Airport (WUX): Wuxi airport is nearer than central Shanghai for some routes; from Wuxi you can travel by taxi or intercity bus to Zhouzhuang (roughly 40-60 minutes by road depending on starting point).

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no railway station in Zhouzhuang itself. The nearest major rail hubs are Suzhou and Kunshan (high-speed trains from Shanghai and Nanjing); from those stations take a taxi or bus to Zhouzhuang.

Bus / coach: Local buses connect Suzhou/Kunshan to Zhouzhuang; taxis from Suzhou take about 40-60 minutes and cost roughly RMB 100-200 depending on time of day. From Shanghai there are also direct coach connections to Zhouzhuang (journey 1-2 hours, fares vary).

How to Get Around Zhouzhuang #

Zhouzhuang’s historic core is pedestrian-only in many sections and very easy to explore on foot. The town’s narrow lanes and bridges are best navigated by walking; small electric carts operate in some parts for short transfers. Boat rides along the canals are a primary transport and sightseeing option - short wooden boat tours run frequently around the main canals. To reach Zhouzhuang you’ll typically take regional buses or a car from Suzhou or Shanghai.

Shopping revolves around the old town’s souvenir streets: stalls and small shops sell silk goods, fans, paper-cut art, embroidery and local snacks.
