Western Qing tombs

The Western Qing tombs are a group of imperial mausoleums of the Qing dynasty located in Hebei province, China. They form one of the principal Qing burial sites and contain the tombs of several emperors and empresses.

Tomb complexes include ceremonial gates, spirit ways and burial enclosures laid out according to imperial ritual and funerary practice. Visitors encounter stone carvings, halls and the remains of funerary architecture that reflect Qing dynastic burial traditions.

Construction of the Western Qing tombs began in the 18th century and continued as successive emperors and members of the imperial family were interred there. The complexes were used over the later Qing period and have been preserved and studied as important historical and cultural monuments.

Situated in Hebei province, the tombs lie southwest of Beijing and are accessed by road from the capital and nearby cities. The site sits in a rural landscape framed by low hills and farmland.
