Mount Miaofeng Mountain

Mount Miaofeng, often referred to as Miaofengshan, is a mountain west of Beijing in Mentougou District and an established site of religious pilgrimage. It is known for its temple complex and seasonal festivals that attract local visitors.

The site combines forested hiking trails with cultural stops at temples and shrines along established routes; the mountain is a frequent day-trip destination from Beijing with trails of varying steepness. Pilgrimage and temple fairs take place during certain religious festivals.

The mountain and its temples developed over many centuries as local religious sites rather than being the work of a single builder; they form part of Beijing’s wider cultural landscape of sacred mountains and temple complexes.

Geographically it sits to the west of central Beijing within the municipal area, set among the lower ridges of the Western Hills.

• Access the main scenic area from Mentougou district and use the official park entrances and car parks; local shuttle buses and short cable-car sections are available on some approaches, which save significant uphill time.
• Don't skip the small temple precincts and old pilgrimage paths on the ridgelines - many visitors focus on the summit view and miss the historic temples, shrines and traditional incense rituals nearby.
