History & Culture of Wat Khao Noi#

‘The temple on the little hill’ is aptly named, sitting on a low 300-metre hill just southwest of Nan town centre and, weather permitting, offering sweeping views over the town and the Nan valley. A steep road winds to the summit, where a fresh breeze often blows, setting the temple bells tinkling.

The setting. The buildings themselves are of no great importance, though a stroll around induces the calm typical of Thai temples. The most striking feature is a large golden standing Buddha set on a pedestal, facing the town from its high promontory as though keeping a watchful eye over it. There is no public transport to the top, but it makes an interesting side-trip by rented car or motorbike.
