How to Get to Vicuña
Vicuña (Elqui Valley) is reached mainly by road from La Serena (the nearest airport) or Santiago by intercity bus or car. There is no passenger rail service; buses and rental cars are the standard ways to arrive and explore the valley.
La Serena / La Florida Airport (LSC): Vicuña is most often reached via La Serena’s airport (LSC) or by flying into Santiago (SCL) and continuing by road. From La Serena the drive to Vicuña is about 50-70 minutes depending on traffic and route.
Arturo Merino Benítez / Santiago (SCL): From Santiago, Vicuña is commonly reached by intercity bus or rental car; the drive is roughly 5-6 hours. Several bus companies serve La Serena and then onward connections to Vicuña.
Train: There is no regular passenger rail service to Vicuña; travel is done by road.
Bus: Intercity buses from Santiago and La Serena connect to Vicuña; bus services from La Serena are frequent and take ~1-1.5 hours. From Santiago, buses to La Serena take ~6-7 hours and tickets are widely available at Santiago terminals.
