High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Tashkent & Northern Plains (Tashkent, Syr Darya plains)
Late May brings true warmth; Tashkent moves toward hot, dry days often touching the high 20s and low 30s°C. The city hums with traders and incoming tourists, and outdoor teahouses fill in the evenings. Expect occasional Saharan-like dusty gusts sweeping the Syr Darya plain; lightweight breathable clothing, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle make getting around the bazaars much easier.
Fergana Valley (Fergana, Namangan, Andijan, Margilan)
Late May warms quickly and humidity rises; the Fergana Valley becomes lush and agricultural activity intensifies as the cotton season moves on. Daytime temps commonly reach the high 20s°C and sudden thunderstorms are possible in the afternoons. Travelers should plan outdoor visits early in the day, carry water, and expect local traffic to increase around harvest-related movement of goods and tractors.
Eastern & Southern Mountains (Chimgan, Beldersay, Ugam-Chatkal, Surxondaryo foothills)
By May the mountains are green and trekking routes toward passes are in good condition; Chimgan’s slopes are lively with day-trippers from Tashkent enjoying cooler temperatures than the plains. Expect pleasant daytime temps in the mid-teens to low 20s°C and biting breezes above 2,000 m. This is one of the most agreeable months for multi-day treks or canyoning near the Ugam-Chatkal ranges-bring warm layers for nights at altitude.
Zarafshan Valley - Samarkand, Bukhara & Shakhrisabz
May unfolds into reliably warm weather: days are pleasantly hot but not yet oppressive, ideal for sampling Bukhara’s covered bazaars and Samarkand’s mosaics before summer heat arrives. Evening breezes cool the historical squares, making rooftop dining a highlight. Pack sun protection for daytime sightseeing and a light sweater for nights, and be aware that increased tourism means earlier bookings for the best historic hotels.
Karakalpakstan, Khorezm & the Kyzylkum Desert (Nukus, Khiva, Urgench, Moynaq)
May warms steadily and often pleasantly in the Khorezm basin, with plenty of blue sky and daytime temperatures in the mid-20s°C; spring flowers can briefly color desert margins. This is a popular window for archaeological visits and cycling tours around Khiva because the heat is not yet oppressive. Plan early starts and carry water for longer rides across exposed terrain, and be aware that local guesthouses may fill on holiday weekends.
