Tashkent & Northern Plains (Tashkent, Syr Darya plains)
August continues the heat; humidity remains low on the northern plains so nights cool more than in southern valleys, but daylight still burns strong. Late sunsets make for pleasant evening strolls along Amir Timur Avenue after the worst heat fades. This is not the best month for long countryside drives unless you welcome high temperatures; lightweight clothing, strong sunscreen and planning activities for morning and evening are essential.
Fergana Valley (Fergana, Namangan, Andijan, Margilan)
August remains sultry and warm, with occasional thunder and brief but intense downpours that can briefly flood narrow lanes in older quarters. Travel between towns is still easy but expect slower walking and a search for shade during midday. Cultural sites are open and evening festivals occasionally animate town squares; carry water and plan rest stops during longer drives across the valley.
Eastern & Southern Mountains (Chimgan, Beldersay, Ugam-Chatkal, Surxondaryo foothills)
August keeps stable mountain weather with warm days and clearer air than the plains, making it one of the best months for trekking and rock-climbing in the Turkestan and Pamir-Alay foothills. Afternoon thunderstorms are occasionally possible at altitude, so plan peaks for morning and carry waterproofs. Evening temperatures are pleasantly cool-bring a warm sleeping layer if camping above 1,500-2,000 m.
Zarafshan Valley - Samarkand, Bukhara & Shakhrisabz
August continues the heat with very warm days and pleasantly cooler nights that make rooftop dinners enjoyable after sunset. Tourist numbers are lower than in spring but the high temperature favors shorter site visits and relaxed afternoons in shaded teahouses. If your itinerary includes Shakhrisabz or other sun-exposed ruins, wear a brimmed hat and plan onward travel before midday heat peaks.
Karakalpakstan, Khorezm & the Kyzylkum Desert (Nukus, Khiva, Urgench, Moynaq)
August remains at peak heat with very high daytime temperatures and warm nights; humidity is low but the sun’s intensity is relentless. Travel is best scheduled for early mornings and after sunset; many small businesses adopt reduced hours during the hottest part of the day. Photographers favor dawn or dusk around minarets, and anyone visiting the Aral Sea should be ready for glaring conditions and occasional salty dust.
