Tashkent & Northern Plains (Tashkent, Syr Darya plains)
By April the plains feel like spring: lawns green, tulips and apricot blossoms brightening neighborhoods around downtown Tashkent and in the botanical gardens. Daytime is pleasantly warm-often low to mid-20s°C-and it’s a popular window for city sightseeing without summer heat. This is when excursions to nearby Chimgan for alpine meadows are comfortable; still bring a light jacket for cooler evenings and mountain breezes.
Fergana Valley (Fergana, Namangan, Andijan, Margilan)
By April the valley is fragrant and busy: apricot and apple blossoms perfume the air and daytime heat reaches pleasant low-to-mid 20s°C. This is a peak travel window for visiting the silk producers in Margilan and the pottery centres of Rishtan before the midsummer heat arrives. Bring a hat and light layers; late afternoons are ideal for relaxed tea in courtyard caravansaries without the summer crowds.
Eastern & Southern Mountains (Chimgan, Beldersay, Ugam-Chatkal, Surxondaryo foothills)
April sees true spring ascend the foothills: lower slopes burst into alpine flowers and higher meadows remain cool and crisp-ideal for day hikes around Chorvoq reservoir and the Gulkam valleys. Temperatures range broadly with warm afternoons and cool nights; mountain weather can turn quickly so pack a windproof shell. Local shepherds begin moving flocks and seasonal pastures open up, which gives hikes a lively pastoral feel.
Zarafshan Valley - Samarkand, Bukhara & Shakhrisabz
April often feels like the most graceful month for the Silk Road cities: warm afternoons, clear blue skies and flowering mulberry and apricot trees framing madrasas. Daytime temperatures commonly reach the high teens to low 20s°C, which suits extended walking tours and rooftop tea at sunset. This is peak photography season-expect more international visitors, so plan purchases from craft stalls ahead of time.
Karakalpakstan, Khorezm & the Kyzylkum Desert (Nukus, Khiva, Urgench, Moynaq)
April usually brings calmer skies and a real warming: Khiva’s courtyards feel balmy by day and the low desert scrub greens briefly after rare rains. Temperatures rise into the high teens and low 20s°C, making this an excellent month to explore the walled Ichan Kala and the kariz systems around Urgench. If visiting the Aral Sea remnants, expect mild but sometimes windy conditions-sun protection and a hat are essential.
