How to Get to Umm ar-Rasas

Umm ar‑Rasas is an archaeological site southeast of Madaba, best reached by road after arriving at Amman's Queen Alia Airport. Public buses to Madaba and short taxi rides from Madaba are the usual approach for independent travelers.

By Air

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM): The main international gateway to Amman and central Jordan. From Amman/AMM you can reach Madaba (the nearest town to Umm ar‑Rasas) by taxi or bus in about 30-45 minutes; from Madaba a short taxi ride (10-20 minutes) reaches the Umm ar‑Rasas archaeological site.

Amman Civil Airport / domestic options: There are no closer international airports; Queen Alia is the practical arrival point for visitors to Umm ar‑Rasas.

By Train & Bus

Train: Jordan does not have a modern passenger rail network for these routes.

Bus / Shared taxi: JETT and other operators run buses from Amman to Madaba (Madaba bus station). The JETT bus Amman→Madaba takes about 30-40 minutes and costs a few Jordanian dinars (JOD). From Madaba take a local taxi to Umm ar‑Rasas (about 10-20 minutes). Local shared taxis (service taxis) are also commonly used for short regional hops.

How to Get Around Umm ar-Rasas #

Umm ar-Rasas is an archaeological site outside Madaba best reached by private car, taxi or organised tour from Amman or Madaba. There is no regular public transport directly to the site, so arrange a transfer in advance.
