How to Get to Tukuyu

Tukuyu is a town in Tanzania's Mbeya Region at the foot of the volcanic highlands. The nearest airport is Songwe/Mbeya (regional); the usual onward travel to Tukuyu is by road using buses or shared minibuses from Mbeya.

By Air

Songwe Airport (MBI) / Mbeya (regional): Songwe (serving Mbeya Region) is the closest airport for Tukuyu; road transfer from Songwe/Mbeya to Tukuyu is about 1-1.5 hours depending on road conditions. Mbeya Regional Airport (if operating): Mbeya is the regional hub for arrivals-check current domestic schedules as routes change.

By Train & Bus

Train: Tanzania’s central rail lines do not provide direct passenger service to Tukuyu; rail is not a practical option for most visitors.

Bus / dala‑dala: The normal way to reach Tukuyu is by bus or dala‑dala (shared minibus) from Mbeya town and other regional centres. Buses from Mbeya take about 1-2 hours and fares are low (a few thousand TZS); dala‑dalas are cheaper and more frequent but can be crowded.
