How to Get to Tsaghkadzor
Tsaghkadzor is most commonly reached via Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) in Yerevan, followed by a road transfer. There is no direct rail service to the resort; minibuses and taxis from Yerevan are the normal onward options.
Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): The main international gateway for Armenia, located near Yerevan. From Zvartnots you can take a taxi directly to Tsaghkadzor (private taxi or prebooked transfer) - journey about 45-60 minutes and typically around 8,000-15,000 AMD depending on vehicle and season. Alternatively, take a taxi or bus into Yerevan (20-30 minutes, ~500-2,000 AMD) and change to a minibus (marshrutka) to Tsaghkadzor from Yerevan.
Shirak / Gyumri (LWN) and small regional airfields: These are much further away and have limited service; reaching Tsaghkadzor from Gyumri requires a long overland transfer (several hours) so most visitors arrive via Zvartnots.
Train: Armenia’s rail network is centered on Yerevan (Yerevan Central / Sasuntsi David station). There is no direct passenger rail service to Tsaghkadzor; rail is useful for longer-distance travel within Armenia but you’ll need to transfer to road transport in Yerevan.
Bus / Minibus (marshrutka): Regular marshrutkas run from Yerevan to Tsaghkadzor from the main intercity bus areas in Yerevan (departures commonly from the Northern bus area / near the central squares). Travel time from Yerevan is about 40-60 minutes and fares are modest (typically a few hundred to around 1,000 AMD). Local buses and taxis also connect Tsaghkadzor with nearby towns (Hrazdan, Yerevan).
How to Get Around Tsaghkadzor #
Tsaghkadzor is compact and easily walked - the main street, hotels and lifts are a short stroll from each other. For mountain access there’s a ropeway/cable-car serving the ski area; walking and short taxis cover the rest of town. Public minibuses and taxis connect Tsaghkadzor with Yerevan and nearby villages; if you plan day trips by car is most convenient. Expect local fares and rentals to be inexpensive compared with the capital.
