Tidjikja City
City in Tagant, Mauritania with desert landscape
At the mouth of the Tagant plateau, Tidjikja's mud-brick lanes, date palms and weekly souks welcome traders and camel caravans; it's a refueling point for desert treks and plateaux hikes.
Why Visit Tidjikja?#
Perched on the Tagant plateau, this oasis town attracts visitors for its earthen ksar architecture, shady date palms and role as a traditional desert stop. Weekly markets and souks bring together traders, silverworkers and camel-herding communities, while local tea ceremonies and Saharan hospitality form the backbone of daily social life. Its compact old quarter and surrounding plateaus offer atmospheric walks and a strong sense of regional desert culture away from coastal cities.
