How to Get to Tibiao#

Tibiao is a rural municipality in Antique province best reached by road after flying into Iloilo or Kalibo. There is no train service; expect a multi-hour bus or private-van transfer for the final leg.

By Air

Iloilo International Airport (ILO): For Tibiao (Antique province) the most practical airport is Iloilo (ILO) or Kalibo (KLO) depending on flight schedules. From Iloilo city or Kalibo you will need a road transfer (bus/van) to Tibiao; travel times from Iloilo are several hours by road.

Kalibo International Airport (KLO): Kalibo is another option for international arrivals; ground transfer from Kalibo to Tibiao typically involves a bus or private van and can take 3+ hours depending on route and transfers.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no intercity passenger rail service to Tibiao.

Bus / Van (V-Hire): From Iloilo City or Kalibo take provincial buses or shared vans (v-hire) bound for Antique province; many services go to Tibiao or to nearby towns like San Jose de Buenavista where you can connect. Journey times vary widely (several hours) and schedules depend on route and season.

How to Get Around Tibiao#

Expect a multi-hour road transfer from Iloilo or Kalibo to reach Tibiao. Once there, local tricycles, motorbikes and tour operators handle most short journeys; walking is fine for the compact town centre.

  • Provincial Bus (PHP 150-400 (approx.)) - Provincial bus companies connect Iloilo/Kalibo with towns in Antique; buses are the economical way to reach Tibiao but can be slow due to terrain and stops. Confirm whether a direct bus goes to Tibiao or if you must change in San Jose de Buenavista. Carry water and snacks for longer rides.
  • Shared Van (V-Hire) / Private Transfer (PHP 300-1,500 (approx.)) - Shared vans (v-hire) and private transfers are common for inter-town travel in the Visayas and offer faster door-to-door service than provincial buses. They are more expensive but often the most convenient option for travelers with luggage or tight schedules.
  • Motorbike / Tricycle (PHP 10-200 (approx.)) - Local tricycles and occasional motorcycle taxis provide last-mile mobility inside Tibiao and to nearby natural sites (hot springs, river). Tricycles are cheap and flexible for short distances but not ideal for long journeys. Agree fares in advance for remote runs.
  • Tour Operators (river/eco trips) (Varies by activity) - Many visitors use local tour operators for eco-activities (river tubing, waterfalls); operators provide transfers from town to sites and include guides and equipment. Booking through reputable agencies or your accommodation ensures safety and clear pricing.
  • Walking - Tibiao’s town centre is small and easy to explore on foot; many guesthouses and local eateries are within walking distance. For trailheads and some waterfalls you may need to walk short rural paths; wear appropriate shoes.
