Thien Mu Pagoda is a historic Buddhist temple complex on the north bank of the Perfume River near Hue in central Vietnam, founded at the start of the 17th century. The site is noted for its riverside hill location and the distinctive multi-storey octagonal tower within the grounds.
The riverside setting and the pagoda’s main structures, including the seven-storey octagonal Phuoc Duyen Tower, attract visitors for photography, religious observance and short guided tours. The complex contains several halls with altars, murals and objects used in ceremonial life, and it serves as an active monastery.
Established in 1601, the pagoda has been rebuilt and expanded at various times and has long been associated with the religious life of Hue. The Phuoc Duyen Tower was erected in the 19th century and houses relics and Buddhist iconography.
Perched on a small hill on the Perfume River’s north bank, Thien Mu Pagoda lies a few kilometres upstream from Hue’s citadel and is commonly reached by road or by traditional boat from the city.
