The Theatro Municipal in São Paulo is a landmark opera house and performing-arts venue located in the city’s historic centre at Praça Ramos de Azevedo. It opened in 1911 and drew stylistic inspiration from major European opera houses of the period.

The theatre’s auditorium and stage were designed to accommodate opera, ballet and orchestral performances, and the venue has hosted leading national and international artists. It was a central location for modern Brazilian cultural movements, notably hosting events during the 1922 Week of Modern Art.

The building sits in downtown São Paulo and remains a major cultural institution after restorations and conservation work carried out in the 20th and 21st centuries.
