How to Get to Tétouan

Tetouan is best reached by road from Tangier (Ibn Battouta Airport) or by the small Sania Ramel Airport (TTU) when services are available. There is no rail station in Tetouan itself - the nearest major rail hub is Gare Tanger-Ville, with bus or grand-taxi connections into Tetouan.

By Air

Sania Ramel Airport (TTU): Sania Ramel is Tetouan’s local airport with limited, mostly seasonal or charter services; commercial flights can be sporadic. From the airport the quickest option is a local taxi into the city centre (roughly 10-20 minutes); expect about 30-40 MAD for a meter taxi or arrange a pre-booked hotel transfer if you prefer a fixed price.

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG): Tangier’s airport is the main international gateway for the region and is about 55-65 km west of Tetouan. From Tangier airport you can take a shuttle or bus into Tangier city centre (short ride, ~20-30 MAD), then continue to Tetouan by CTM/Supratours bus or grand taxi - the road journey takes about 1-1.5 hours and regional fares typically range from ~30-120 MAD depending on vehicle and whether you take a shared grand taxi or a private transfer.

By Train & Bus

Train: Tetouan does not have an ONCF rail station. The nearest major station is Gare Tanger-Ville (Tangier), which is served by ONCF (including the high-speed Al Boraq services on certain routes). From Tanger-Ville you continue to Tetouan by bus or grand taxi (about 1-1.5 hours). ONCF ticket prices vary widely by route and class (roughly 40-200 MAD depending on distance and service).

Bus: Intercity buses (CTM and several private operators) serve Tetouan’s main bus station (Gare Routière Tetouan) with direct links to Tangier, Chefchaouen and other cities. CTM offers reserved, comfortable coaches; typical fares to nearby cities (e.g., Tangier) are commonly in the ~30-70 MAD range depending on service and distance. Local municipal buses and shared taxis cover shorter regional hops.

How to Get Around Tétouan

Tetouan is easiest to navigate on foot inside the medina, with petit taxis for short hops and grand taxis or CTM buses for regional travel. Use Tangier (airport and rail) as the main transport hub if you're arriving from farther away, then switch to bus or shared taxi for the final leg into Tetouan.
