• By Air: Binaka Airport (GNS): Flights from Medan and other Sumatran cities land at Binaka (Gunungsitoli) on Nias’ northern side; the flight from Medan is about 1 hour. From Binaka it is a road journey of roughly 3-4 hours to Teluk Dalam by minibus or private car; expect fares around IDR 100,000-250,000 depending on vehicle and stops.
• By Sea: Ferry to Gunungsitoli / Sibolga connections: There are roll-on/roll-off ferries and overnight cargo/passenger services linking Sibolga on Sumatra to ports on Nias such as Gunungsitoli; crossings are long and schedules change seasonally. From the landing port you continue by road to Teluk Dalam as above.
• By Road: From Gunungsitoli: Public minibuses (buses or shared vans) run between Gunungsitoli and Teluk Dalam; the drive takes about 3-4 hours on coastal roads and fares are commonly IDR 50,000-150,000 per person. Hiring a private car with driver is the fastest and most flexible option for exploring the southern coast.

Getting around Teluk Dalam and the surrounding coast is straightforward but relies on local transport and hired vehicles. Distances between beaches and villages are short but road surfaces vary.

• Walking: The town itself is compact and easily explored on foot, especially the market and beachfront areas.
• Ojek / local taxi: Motorcycle taxis (ojek) and small local taxis are available for short hops; expect fares of IDR 10,000-50,000 depending on distance.
• Scooter rental: Scooter hire is common and useful for independent exploration of nearby beaches and villages; daily rates are typically IDR 70,000-150,000. Only rent if you are confident riding on variable coastal roads.
• Private drivers and day tours: Hiring a driver or joining a local tour is the easiest way to visit multiple villages and surf spots in a day, and helps with arranging boat transfers and guided cultural visits.

Eating in Teluk Dalam centers on simple warungs and coastal restaurants serving freshly grilled fish, nasi and local snacks; many places are informal and open-air. Beachfront warungs are popular with surfers at lunchtime and early evening, while the market area has basic stalls for early morning coffee and local foods.

Nightlife is low-key: a few beachside warungs or surf lodges serve drinks and music into the evening but most places wind down early. Expect social evenings around guesthouses and communal dining rather than formal bars or clubs.

Markets in Teluk Dalam sell fresh seafood, fruit and everyday goods, plus locally made textiles and carved wood items from surrounding villages. For souvenirs, look for woven cloth, simple beads and hand-carved pieces sold at village stalls and small shops in town.
