Binaka Airport (GNS) - Gunungsitoli: The main airport on Nias Island serving Gunungsitoli (Binaka/Gunungsitoli Airport). Domestic flights operate from Medan (Kualanamu, KNO) and other regional hubs; flight time from Medan is about 30-60 minutes and fares vary by operator.
Medan Kualanamu International Airport (KNO): For most international arrivals fly into Medan and either take a connecting domestic flight to Binaka (GNS) or travel by road/ferry via Sibolga and the western coast of Sumatra.
Train: There are no direct train services to Nias Island; rail travel ends on Sumatra’s mainland (Medan) and you must continue by air or sea.
Bus / ferry: Overland plus ferry via Sibolga is an alternative: buses from Medan to Sibolga (several hours) then a ferry to Nias. Travel times are long and schedules can be irregular-check local operators in advance.
