How to Get to Sibolga
Sibolga has a small regional airport (Ferdinand Lumban Tobing) for short domestic flights; overland coaches from Medan and other Sumatran towns are the usual alternative. There is no major passenger rail serving the city.
Ferdinand Lumban Tobing Airport (FLZ) - Sibolga: Sibolga is served by Ferdinand Lumban Tobing Airport (FLZ) at Pinangsori, a short drive from the city. Taxi or ojek rides from the airstrip into Sibolga take around 20-40 minutes depending on exact drop-off.
Medan - Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) - via Medan: For more international flight options travellers commonly arrive at Medan and continue overland or by regional flight/coach to Sibolga. The overland journey from Medan to Sibolga is long (several hours) by bus or private car.
Train: There is no direct intercity passenger rail service into Sibolga; Sumatra’s north-south rail links are limited and do not provide a straightforward rail alternative for Sibolga.
Bus/Coach & Road: Long-distance buses and private cars connect Sibolga with Medan, Padang Sidempuan and other Sumatran towns. Coaches are the common economical option for intercity travel; ferries and boats serve nearby islands and coastal routes when available.
