How to Get to Talkha#

Talkha sits beside Mansoura in Egypt’s Nile Delta and is reached overland from Cairo and Alexandria. Cairo International is the main air gateway; the easiest onward travel is by train or bus to Mansoura then a short taxi or microbus into Talkha.

By Air

Cairo International Airport (CAI): Cairo is the main international gateway for Dakahlia Governorate. From Cairo you can travel to Talkha by train or bus (see below) - road travel typically takes about 2.5-4 hours depending on traffic and service. Airport taxis to Cairo’s bus/rail terminals cost extra; plan for transfer time into the city.

Borg El Arab Airport (HBE): For western Nile Delta access you might use Alexandria/Borg El Arab then a long-distance bus or private taxi east to Mansoura/Talkha; expect 3-4+ hours by road. Regular scheduled flights to Borg El Arab are less frequent than to Cairo.

By Train & Bus

Train: Egyptian National Railways serves Mansoura station (the main rail access for Talkha). Trains run from Cairo to Mansoura; journey time is typically around 2-3 hours depending on service and class. Ticket prices vary by class and service but second-class/ordinary seats are inexpensive.

Bus: Intercity buses and microbuses connect Cairo, Alexandria and other Delta cities to Mansoura and Talkha. Buses from Cairo’s Tahrir/Al-Gamaa al-Islamiya bus terminals take roughly 2.5-4 hours; fares commonly range from cheap microbus prices to higher fares on air‑conditioned private coaches. From Mansoura station you can take a short taxi or microbus across the canal to Talkha (very short ride, low fare).

Choose a higher class for more comfort on longer trips, and expect varying punctuality. Buy tickets at the station or online where available.
  • Intercity bus / Coach (50-200 EGP) - Private coach companies and state-run buses run frequent services between Cairo, Alexandria and Delta cities. Air‑conditioned coaches are comfortable and drop you at Mansoura or nearby terminals; microbuses are cheaper but less comfortable. Schedules are regular but can be affected by traffic.
  • Local microbus / Minivan (5-20 EGP) - Short hops between Mansoura and Talkha are served by local microbuses and minivans; these are the cheapest local option and run frequently. Expect cramped conditions at peak times. Have small-change ready and ask locals which van goes to Talkha’s centre.
  • Taxi / Careem/Uber (where available) (30-150 EGP) - Taxis and ride-hailing (in nearby larger cities) provide convenient door-to-door service. In Dakahlia, traditional taxis and informal shared taxis are common; negotiate fares or insist on the meter. Ride-hailing apps may not operate everywhere in the governorate.
  • Walking - Talkha’s central areas are walkable for short errands and market visits. Sidewalks can be narrow or uneven; stay aware of traffic and crowded streets, especially near markets.
