How to Get to Tak Bai
Tak Bai is reached by road from nearby Narathiwat or Sungai Kolok railhead; small domestic flights to Narathiwat and regional bus/train services to Sungai Kolok are the main gateways. Local transport relies on minibuses, taxis and motorbike taxis.
Narathiwat Airport (NAW): Narathiwat is the closest domestic airport with flights from Bangkok via southern Thai hubs; from Narathiwat town it’s a road trip to Tak Bai-expect under an hour to around 1.5 hours depending on traffic and the exact route.
Hat Yai International Airport (HDY): Hat Yai is a larger regional airport used by many travellers. From Hat Yai you can take a bus or private transfer toward Narathiwat and Tak Bai; the overland trip will take several hours (allow most of a day depending on connections).
Train: The State Railway of Thailand’s Southern Line terminates at Sungai Kolok station near the Malaysia border; from Sungai Kolok you can reach Tak Bai by road (taxi or local bus), typically under an hour.
