High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Northern Sughd (Khujand, Isfara, Iskanderkul)
The warming trend becomes obvious: pear and apricot blossoms along the lowlands, and the lower Fann foothills lose their snowpack. Trails to Iskanderkul and nearby gorges open for day hikes, though higher ridges still hold late patches of snow. Travelers will notice buses filling with Tajik families on weekend day trips; bring layered clothing because mornings remain cool while afternoons get pleasantly warm.
Khatlon & Vakhsh Valley (Bokhtar/Qurghonteppa, Kulob, Vakhsh)
April regularly sees warm, sun-drenched afternoons and comfortable evenings across Khatlon, and the landscape is at its most agrarian-green. Day trips to river beaches become appealing while fields are still actively being sown - local hospitality is strong and markets are full of fresh produce. Travelers should still avoid midday heat if planning extended outdoor visits and bring sunscreen and a hat.
Dushanbe & Hissar / Fann foothills (capital region, Varzob, Hisor Fortress)
April’s warmth is obvious: terraces and city cafés fill as residents take advantage of more daylight, and the lower Fann trails are green and accessible for multi-day treks. Higher passes still keep snow but many base-camp approaches are workable without crampons. If you plan to trek further into the Fanns later in the season, April is a handy time to arrange guides and permits and to acclimatise in Varzob.
Pamir Plateau / Gorno-Badakhshan (Khorog, Murghab, Wakhan, Pamir Highway)
By late spring the lower Pamir valleys greener and routes such as the eastern stretches of the Pamir Highway begin to clear - but the entire corridor rarely becomes reliably passable before May-June. Traders and shepherds return to summer pastures and high-mountain lakes start to thaw; expect potholes and temporary bridgeworks on many stretches of road. Travelers should keep extra travel days in hand and check permits: GBAO travel paperwork is required for foreigners.
