Most international travelers arrive via Dushanbe International Airport (DYU), the country’s primary gateway and one of Tajikistan’s major airports handling high volumes of traffic. It serves Dushanbe, the capital and a key transport hub for reaching the west, the Fann Mountains around Iskanderkul, and overland routes toward Panjakent.
Other scheduled airports include Qurghonteppa International Airport (KQT) and two additional airports with commercial service: Khujand International Airport (LBD) and Kulob Airport (TJU). Khujand is a northern Silk Road city on the Syr Darya in the Fergana Valley, while Kulob is a large southern city and a base for travel in the south. With major sights like the Pamir Highway and remote highland areas often approached overland, domestic flights can complement longer road journeys rather than replace them.
