About Szimpla

Known as “Simple Garden” in Hungarian, Szimpla Kert is widely regarded as the pioneer of Budapest’s ruin bars, pubs set in repurposed, timeworn buildings with an eclectic, make do character.

It began as a relaxed place to find an inexpensive drink, and over time became a major tourist draw as well as a community hub. Its identity goes beyond a bar, it regularly hosts film showings, live music, and other events.

Part of the appeal is wandering through its different rooms and corners, where mismatched furniture, art, and quirky decor create a maze like social space rather than a single conventional pub room.
