The Hungarian State Opera House is a Neo-Renaissance opera house on Andrássy Avenue in central Budapest and the principal performance venue of Hungary’s national opera company. It was designed by Miklós Ybl and opened in 1884.

The interior contains an ornate auditorium, stately foyers and decorated public spaces with a seating capacity of about 1,200, hosting opera, ballet and orchestral performances. Guided tours of the historic building are available outside performance times.

Constructed in the late 19th century, the opera house was commissioned as a national cultural institution and has been the site of premieres and a continuous performing tradition since its opening.
