How to Get to Struga#
Struga sits on Lake Ohrid’s shore and is most easily reached via Ohrid airport or by bus from Skopje and other Macedonian cities. Local minibuses and taxis handle short transfers between Ohrid and Struga.
Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD): Ohrid airport is the closest to Struga (about 15-25 minutes by road). From OHD you can take a taxi to Struga for roughly €10-20; shuttle or prebooked transfers are also available.
Skopje International Airport (SKP): Skopje offers many more international connections. From SKP you can take an intercity bus to Struga (journey about 3-4 hours) or travel via Ohrid with a domestic connection; typical bus fares from Skopje to Struga are around 300-700 MKD depending on operator and service level.
Train: North Macedonia’s rail network does not provide a convenient direct rail link to Struga; buses are the normal public option.
Bus: Regular minibuses and coaches run between Ohrid and Struga (short trips of around 20-30 minutes; fares are low, often under 100 MKD). Long-distance buses from Skopje to Struga or to Ohrid are frequent and are the main public connection from the capital (3-4 hours, fares commonly 300-700 MKD).

Buses connect Struga to the rest of North Macedonia while Ohrid airport handles nearby international arrivals. Within the Struga/Ohrid area, minibuses, taxis and walking are the easiest ways to get around.
- Airport transfer (Ohrid OHD) (€10-20 (taxi)) - Ohrid airport is a short drive to Struga (15-25 minutes). Taxis and prebooked transfers are convenient and inexpensive compared with arranging multiple bus connections with luggage.
- Intercity bus (Skopje ↔ Struga) (300-700 MKD) - Coaches from Skopje to Struga or Ohrid are frequent and are the most economical overland option. Travel time is roughly 3-4 hours; buses depart from the main bus station in Skopje.
- Local buses / minibuses (<100 MKD) - Frequent local minibuses link Ohrid and Struga and serve lakeside villages. They are cheap and fast for short hops; schedules are informal so ask at the bus station or your hotel for current times.
- Taxi (€5-25) - Taxis are widely available for short transfers, airport runs, or trips along the lakeshore. For airport transfers, fixed-rate fares are common - confirm the price in advance.
