How to Get to Spétses
Spetses is a car-restricted island in the Saronic/Argolic Gulf; you reach it by ferry from mainland ports (Piraeus or Porto Heli/Kosta) after flying into Athens or driving down the Peloponnese. Ferries and hydrofoils are regular in high season but frequencies drop in winter.
Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, Athens (ATH): From Athens you need to reach a mainland port: Piraeus for direct hydrofoils/higher-speed ferries or Porto Heli/Kosta for short local ferries. Transfer from ATH to Piraeus is commonly by bus X96 (€~6) taking ~60-90 minutes or by taxi (roughly €35-€60, ~40-60 minutes depending on traffic). From Athens to Porto Heli by car takes about 2-2.5 hours.
Local air options: There are no airports on Spetses; all air travel goes via Athens or regional airports then continues by road + ferry.
Bus / Road to Porto Heli (Kosta): From Athens, coaches or private transfer to Porto Heli/Kosta on the Peloponnese take ~2-3 hours depending on traffic. From Kosta (often referenced as ‘Kosta/Porto Heli’) ferries to Spetses are frequent and quick.
Ferry from Piraeus / Kosta / Porto Heli: From Piraeus: hydrofoils and high-speed ferries to Spetses take roughly 2-3 hours; prices for high-speed services commonly range from about €25-€45 depending on season and operator. From Porto Heli / Kosta: the crossing is much shorter - typically 15-30 minutes on the local ferry and often priced in the single-digit to low-double-digit euro range (€5-€20). Timetables change seasonally, so check operators like Hellenic Seaways or local lines for exact times and fares.

Short water taxis run between the main harbour (Dapia) and nearby bays; local buses and seasonal boat services connect to other parts of the island. Car access is limited for visitors, so rely on walking, rented scooters or boats for exploring. In high season, book ferries and rentals in advance and carry cash at smaller stalls.
