How to Get to Nafplio#
Nafplio is best reached from Athens by KTEL coach from the main intercity bus stations. There is no direct rail link, so the intercity bus is the simplest public-transport option.
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport (ATH): Athens is the main international gateway for Nafplio. From the airport, connect to Athens Kifissos/KTEL bus terminal (or central rail/bus links) and take a KTEL Argolida coach to Nafplio; door-to-door time is usually about 2-3 hours depending on connections.
Local/regional airports: There are no major airports in Nafplio itself; regional arrivals normally transfer through Athens.
Train: There is no direct national rail service from Athens to Nafplio - coaches are the common public option.
Bus: KTEL Argolida coaches run from Athens Kifissos Bus Station to Nafplio with a typical journey time of around 2-2.5 hours and fares generally in the region of €10-€15. Buses are frequent and the standard public-transport route to Nafplio.
How to Get Around Nafplio#
The regular KTEL coach from Athens is the most practical public-transport route to Nafplio. Once there, the old town is very walkable and a hire car is useful only if you plan wider exploration of the Peloponnese.
- KTEL coach (Athens-Nafplio) (€10-€15) - KTEL Argolida coaches leave from Athens’ main bus terminals to Nafplio several times daily. Coaches are the most practical, economical and frequent public option; the journey takes about 2-2.5 hours depending on traffic.
