The theatre is still used annually for theatrical performances, most notably in the Athens and Epidaurus Festival.
The theatre was constructed in the classical period, usually attributed to architects of the late 4th century BCE, as part of the sanctuary complex dedicated to the healing god Asclepius. It received Roman-period modifications but retains its classical layout and seating geometry.

How to Get to Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus
From Athens (approx 2-2.5 hours by car) take the A8/E94 motorway toward Corinth then follow regional roads to Epidaurus. There are organized day tours from Athens and bus connections in high season; the site is about 10-15 minutes by car from the village of Lygourio.
