Airports in Somalia

Somalia has three airports with scheduled commercial service, and most international travelers arrive via Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ), the country’s primary gateway and one of its major airports handling high volumes of traffic. MGQ serves Mogadishu, the historic Indian Ocean capital in the south.

In the northwest, Egal International Airport (HGA) is the other international airport, serving Hargeisa, the relaxed capital of self-declared Somaliland and a common base for visits toward Laas Geel. Berbera Airport (BBO) is the domestic airport with scheduled service, tied to Berbera, the historic Red Sea port known for its long beaches and fishing villages.

With only one domestic airport in scheduled commercial service, internal flying is limited compared with international arrivals, and travel between regions also depends on other overland and coastal connections. International access is often routed via East African hubs like Nairobi, with entry focused on Mogadishu through MGQ or Somaliland through HGA.
