Snežnik (plateau) Mountains

Snežnik is a karst plateau and mountain area in southern Slovenia adjacent to the Croatian border, dominated by forest and upland pastures. The feature is best known for its wooded slopes and the prominent peak commonly called Mount Snežnik.

Hiking routes and forestry tracks cross the plateau and lead to the summit area, where trails offer views across the surrounding karst landscape. The plateau supports traditional forestry and seasonal grazing in places accessible by marked paths.

The plateau has been used for grazing and forestry for centuries and today combines managed woodland with protected areas and recreational trails. Human use has generally been low-density, maintaining a largely natural forest cover.

Geographically Snežnik sits in southwestern Slovenia close to the border with Croatia, within a rural mountain region that is reached from nearby Slovenian towns and road corridors.
