Monument 13th-century Delhi fort ruins built by Alauddin Khalji

Siri Fort is the ruined remains of a medieval fortified city in south Delhi, India, constructed during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Khalji in the early 14th century (around 1303 CE). It was one of the Delhi Sultanate’s principal defensive works.
The site offers visible remains of thick rubble masonry ramparts, fragments of gateways and sections of the outer wall set within a largely urbanised landscape. Visitors often view the ruins from surrounding roads and parks and combine a visit with nearby cultural venues such as the Siri Fort Auditorium and sports complex. The surviving stretches are modest in scale compared with fully preserved forts but are one of the few visible traces of Alauddin Khalji’s short-lived capital.
Built as a fortified capital and military stronghold under Alauddin Khalji, Siri served defensive and administrative purposes during the Khalji period. Over subsequent centuries the city fell into disuse and much of the masonry was quarried or buried; what remains today are partial ramparts and foundations documented by archaeologists.
The ruins sit in south Delhi within the National Capital Territory, amid modern development and recreational facilities; they are in the general vicinity of the Hauz Khas-Saket corridor of the city. The site is accessible from major south Delhi roads and public transport nodes.
