Halmahera has an equatorial, very wet climate year-round but there are relatively drier months that suit boat trips and trekking. Plan for humidity and frequent rain outside the clearest months.

Sidangoli is mainly reached by sea from Ternate and by land from nearby parts of Halmahera; the nearest major airport is on Ternate. Boat timetables are informal and subject to weather, so allow flexibility when planning connections.

• By sea: from Kota Ternate: Regular speedboats and ferries cross the bay from Kota Ternate to Sidangoli through the day; trip times are roughly 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on boat type and sea conditions, and fares are typically paid in IDR (expect around IDR 50,000-150,000).
• By air + boat: Sultan Babullah Airport (TTE): Fly into Sultan Babullah Airport on Ternate and continue by boat to Sidangoli; allow extra time for the transfer and for buying boat tickets at the harbour.
• By sea: inter-island services: Occasional inter-island boats call in from elsewhere in North Maluku and sometimes North Sulawesi; these services are less predictable and slower than the Ternate runs.

Nightlife in Sidangoli is very quiet - expect small gatherings at waterfront warungs and early evenings. There are no clubs; social life centers on the harbour and local cafés.

Shopping is minimal: a local market sells fish, fresh produce and basic supplies while small stalls supply travel essentials. For souvenirs, handicrafts and a larger market selection take the boat to Ternate.
