Seram Island

Seram is a large island in Indonesia’s Maluku province characterized by rugged interior mountains, dense rainforest, and complex coastal inlets. The island is a centre for biodiversity with numerous endemic plant and animal species.

Major attractions include highland hiking on the central mountain range, the island’s highest point at Mount Binaiya at about 3,027 metres, and protected areas such as Manusela National Park that conserve rainforest and endemic fauna. Coastal areas contain bays and traditional villages with local maritime livelihoods. Access to interior areas is limited and often by small boat or rough roads.
