How to Get to Saranac Lake
Saranac Lake is served by the small Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK) when flights operate, but many visitors use larger regional airports and drive in. Intercity buses connect the village to other Adirondack towns and to points south and north.
Adirondack Regional Airport / Saranac Lake (SLK): SLK is the local airport serving Saranac Lake and the wider Adirondacks. When commercial flights operate there are short transfers into the village (taxi or shuttle under 15 minutes); availability is seasonal and can be limited.
Burlington International (BTV) / Plattsburgh International (PBG): These larger airports are commonly used as alternatives. From Burlington it’s roughly a 1.5-2 hour drive; from Plattsburgh about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic and route.
Train: There is no direct Amtrak service to Saranac Lake; the nearest Amtrak station on some routes is Westport or Plattsburgh, but services are limited.
Bus: Adirondack Trailways and other regional operators run bus services connecting Saranac Lake with Albany, Plattsburgh and Montreal; travel times vary (Albany → Saranac Lake ~3-4 hours) and fares depend on the route and advance purchase.
