How to Get to San Carlos#
San Carlos (Panamá Oeste) is a Pacific-side coastal town reached most easily from Panama City. The nearest major airports are Tocumen International (PTY) and the domestic Albrook/Marcos A. Gelabert (PAC) airport; ground transfers (bus, shuttle or taxi) are the normal way to reach the town.
Tocumen International Airport (PTY): Tocumen is Panama’s main international gateway in Panama City. From Tocumen you can take a taxi or private transfer to San Carlos - the drive is roughly 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic; expect about USD 80-120 for a private taxi and 90-120 minutes travel time.
Marcos A. Gelabert / Albrook (PAC): Albrook is the domestic/nearby airport inside Panama City used for some regional flights. From Albrook you can catch intercity buses from Albrook Bus Terminal to towns in Panamá Oeste; the bus journey to San Carlos typically takes about 1.5-2 hours and fares are low (around USD 2-6). Taxis or private transfers from Albrook are faster (about 60-90 minutes) and cost more (roughly USD 40-70).
Train: There is no regular intercity passenger rail service connecting Panama City with San Carlos. Trains are not a practical option for this route.
Bus: The main public option is buses departing from Albrook Bus Terminal in Panama City toward communities in Panamá Oeste; travel time to San Carlos is about 90-120 minutes depending on stops and traffic.
