How to Get to Samal Island #

Samal Island (Island Garden City of Samal) lies in Davao Gulf off Davao City. Multiple daily ferry and fastcraft services run from Davao City’s Sasa Port and Sta. Ana Wharf to ports on Samal (e.g., Babak, Kaputian); these are the normal public access points. From Francisco Bangoy (Davao) International Airport it’s about a 15-25 km drive (roughly 30-45 minutes by car) to the ferry terminals in Davao City; once on Samal, local tricycles and jeepneys serve short transfers from the landing piers.

Tips for Visiting Samal Island #

  • Cross from Davao City by the regular ferries or fast crafts and aim for an early departure to beat the weekend day-trip crowds - check terminal schedules in advance.
  • Land at one of the island's main ferry points (Babak or Kaputian) depending on which beaches or resorts you plan to visit, and arrange local boat transfers through your accommodation to reach quieter coves.
  • If you plan to island-hop or visit multiple beaches, pre-book inter-beach boat transfers or coordinate with a local operator to avoid long waits and busy piers.
