How to Get to Šakiai
Šakiai is a small Lithuanian district town best reached by bus from Kaunas or Vilnius rather than by direct rail. Kaunas Airport (KUN) is the most convenient air gateway for international visitors.
Kaunas Airport (KUN): Kaunas is the closest commercial airport to Šakiai with some European connections. From Kaunas you can take a bus or taxi to Kaunas bus/train station (10-20 minutes, taxi ~€10-€20) and then a regional Kautra bus to Šakiai - travel time about 1h-1h15, fares typically €3-€6.
Vilnius Airport (VNO): Vilnius offers more connections; from VNO take a bus to Vilnius bus station then Kautra or other intercity buses toward Šakiai (journey ~1h45-2h30 by bus, fares often €6-€12) or combine train+bus connections via Kaunas.
Train: Šakiai does not have significant national rail services; the nearest rail access is via Kaunas for longer journeys. Use Kaunas railway station for rail legs and switch to bus to reach Šakiai.
