How to Get to Saint-Leu
Saint-Leu is on Réunion's west coast and is best reached via Roland Garros (Saint-Denis) or Pierrefonds (Saint-Pierre) airports, followed by car, shuttle or bus. Renting a car is the most convenient way to explore the island's west and south.
Roland Garros / Saint-Denis (RUN): Réunion’s main international airport is Roland Garros (RUN) near Saint-Denis on the northern part of the island. From Roland Garros you can reach Saint-Leu by car or shuttle - the drive is around 45-70 minutes depending on traffic and route (RN1 via the west coast is common). Taxis and private transfers are available at the airport; fares to Saint-Leu typically range from €60-€100.
Pierrefonds Airport (ZSE): Pierrefonds (near Saint-Pierre) handles some domestic and regional flights; from there to Saint-Leu is a longer drive (about 1-1.5 hours) across the island. Car rental is a popular option at both airports.
Train: Réunion has no rail passenger service.
Bus: The island has a public bus network (Car Jaune/Regional buses and private carriers) linking major towns; lines between Saint-Denis, Saint-Pierre and coastal towns pass near Saint-Leu. Bus travel is inexpensive (single fares are low) but slower than driving; check the local schedules (operated by CIVIS/Car Jaune and regional networks).
How to Get Around Saint-Leu #
Saint-Leu is easy to explore on foot along the seafront and in the town centre, but a car is handy for beaches and hill viewpoints. Regional buses serve the west coast; taxis are available but can be scarce late at night.
