How to Get to Rwamagana#
Rwamagana is a short drive east of Kigali and is normally reached from Kigali International Airport (KGL) followed by a road transfer. Frequent minibuses and taxis make the trip quick and straightforward.

From KGL you can take an airport taxi to Kigali and then a bus or taxi east toward Rwamagana; airport taxis to Kigali centre take about 15-25 minutes and typically cost around 6,000-12,000 RWF (approx. US$6-12). Private airport transfers to Rwamagana take roughly 45-75 minutes depending on traffic.
Train: Rwanda does not operate passenger trains.

How to Get Around Rwamagana#
Because Rwamagana is close to Kigali, buses and short taxi rides are the most practical ways to get there. Within town, motos and walking handle most short trips.
- Intercity bus / shared minibus (500-1,500 RWF) - Frequent shared minibuses from Nyabugogo or direct minibuses from Kigali head to Rwamagana several times daily. Trips are short (under 90 minutes) and cheap-this is the most common option for local travelers.
- Taxi / private transfer (~8,000-20,000 RWF (approximate)) - Taxis and private transfers offer faster, more comfortable trips from Kigali-useful for early/late arrivals or if you have luggage. Travel time is about 45-75 minutes depending on traffic.
- Motorbike taxi (moto) (200-1,000 RWF per short trip) - Motorbike taxis are ideal for short trips inside Rwamagana town and nearby villages; they are inexpensive but carry little luggage and are less comfortable in rain.
- Bicycle hire / local cycling (Varies by rental) - Cycling is possible in and around Rwamagana for short sightseeing or village visits; terrain is a mix of paved and secondary roads. Hire through guesthouses where available and avoid busy main roads.
- Walking - Rwamagana’s central area is compact and easy to walk for markets and local shops. Walking is a good way to explore the town during daytime.
