Best Time to Visit Ruhengeri #

Visit Ruhengeri (Musanze) during the drier months when trails are firmer and gorilla trekking is easiest-typically June-September and often December-February. Its high elevation keeps weather mild year‑round, but the long rains (March-May) bring heavy, slippery showers.

Long Rainy Season
March - May · 10-22°C (50-72°F)
Heavy, persistent rains make trails slippery and muddy; gorilla treks are wetter but fewer visitors and greener scenery-expect slow travel and spectacular rainforest photography.
Cool Dry Season
June - September · 8-20°C (46-68°F)
Best overall for gorilla trekking: firmer trails, fewer showers, crisp mornings and chilly nights - busy with visitors but reliably comfortable for long hikes.
Short Rainy Season
October - February · 10-24°C (50-75°F)
Variable: short rains usually in Oct-Nov, then drier Dec-Feb; fewer tourists in shoulder periods, warm daytime, muddy patches possible on hikes.
