Royal Palace of Cambodia

The Royal Palace of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the official royal residence and ceremonial seat of the King, established in its current location in the mid 19th century. The palace complex combines royal functions with public museum spaces and important religious shrines.

People commonly visit the ornate Throne Hall and the adjoining Silver Pagoda, the latter noted for a floor inlaid with several thousand silver tiles and a collection of national treasures. Visitors also see richly decorated pavilions, formal gardens, and exterior ceremonial buildings used for state occasions.

The present palace complex was built beginning in the 1860s under King Norodom when the royal capital moved to Phnom Penh. The site has been adapted and restored over time but continues to serve as the center for royal ceremonies and some official functions.

The palace sits on riverfront grounds near central Phnom Penh, adjacent to the Mekong and Tonlé Sap confluence and within easy walking distance of other city landmarks.
