City Coastal town in Bay of Kotor with Roman ruins
On the Bay of Kotor, Risan keeps low-profile Roman mosaics, an old waterfront and short ferry hops to Perast. Visitors linger for seaside promenades, seafood taverns and the slow study of ruined villas and layered history.

Tivat Airport (TIV): The closest airport to Risan (about 25-35 km). From Tivat you can reach Risan by taxi in roughly 25-40 minutes for about €25-45; local bus services also run along the coast with fares around €2-5, taking ~30-45 minutes depending on stops.
Podgorica Airport (TGD): About 60-90 km away and useful for some international connections. Buses from Podgorica to Herceg Novi/Kotor pass near Risan and typically take 1.5-2.5 hours; fares are roughly €5-10. Taxis from Podgorica are more expensive (around €70-100).
Train: Montenegro’s rail network does not serve Risan directly; rail travel is limited and not the usual option for this coastal area.
Bus: Intercity and local buses are the primary public transport. Buses run between Kotor, Herceg Novi, Tivat and Risan with short travel times (20-45 minutes) and very low fares (typically €1-5). Seasonal schedules are busier in summer, and timetables should be checked in advance.
