Ram Mandir is a large Hindu temple complex in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, built on the site long identified by many devotees as the birthplace of Lord Rama. The modern temple complex was developed and inaugurated in early 2024 and is a major pilgrimage destination.
The complex comprises a central sanctuary, ancillary halls and visitor facilities organized to manage large numbers of pilgrims and ceremonial activity. The structure is built in sandstone with carved architectural elements drawn from traditional temple design.
The contemporary temple project followed a series of legal, political and social developments culminating in a decision that cleared the way for construction; a trust was established to develop and manage the complex. The site has been a focal point of religious activity and public interest for many decades.
The temple complex sits in the city of Ayodhya in northeastern Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Sarayu River, and is accessible from the surrounding city and regional transport links.
- Completion and inauguration: Was constructed by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust and formally opened to the public following its inauguration in January 2024.
- Religious significance: Built at the site traditionally identified by many Hindus as the birthplace of Lord Rama and designed to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims and visitors.
